Cardiac Arrest Review of 11 Cases

Abstract
1) 11 cases of cardiac arrest encountered and treated at Capital Army Hospital are presented along with literature.
2) The most frequent cause of cardiac arrest was hypoxia, hypovolemic shock,acute cardiopulmonary insufficiency, and vagovagal reflex in the order of frequency. One case of cerebral hemorrhage were also seen.
3) All case was treated with oxygenation and on 3 cases where open heart massage carried out defibrillater was used.

4) The prognosis was poor for all cases where cardiac massage either external or internal, had to be -carried out for more than 10 minutes was poor.

5) The most frequent complication following massage was fracture of the rib and neurological sequalae was seen in one case which slowly improved.
6) 4 cases out of 8 cases on whom cardiac massage was carried out recovered, but 2 died 2 days later,
and 2 survived.
